Its that time of the year when the festival's nearly finished and the students havent yet arrived - still warm enough for sitting in the sun and quiet enough to find a table! Apparently Edinburgh is one of the saddest places in Britain - no wonder, all the road works in the city and the grey glum skies! We blinked and missed the summer.
Something good to cheer you up though – Bunny Huggers is going to be a year old on the 31st October (we are well excited!) and we are thinking of doing a cruelty free fayre, early November - which ties in well with the World Vegan Day on 1st Nov and Bunny Huggers 1st Birthday. We cant do it on our own though - we need people and resources to help us out. Nearly 750 people on this newsletter list, so we are hoping you will reply back and help us organise it! The idea is to promote a cruelty-free lifestyle - towards animals, humans and the environment. If there's enough of us, it should be easy (and fun!) to do - or we'll have to shelve the idea, which would be a shame, so get in touch!

Lots of people saw the documentary on Channel Four ‘Kill It, Skin It and Wear It’ on the 10th August. We are now getting more requests for information and have decided to do stalls during weekdays over the next couple of weeks as well. However, we are desperately looking for people to man the stall! Scottish Government Consultation on the proposed Marine Bill: Through this Bill it is believed the Scottish Government will tinker with the laws 'protecting' seals in Scotland. In reality there is no law which protects seals in Scotland. Please read the Consultation paper and, at the very least, make a short submission calling for the new Marine Bill to totally outlaw the killing of seals in Scottish waters. Your submission to the consultation only needs to read 'I want the Marine Bill to include a ban on all killing of seals in Scottish waters.' http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Environment/Water/16440/marine-bill-consultation/ For more info please get in touch.

Scotland declares wars on sea gulls! Sea gulls nesting and feeding in costal town and villages are apparently causing ‘problems’ and the initial battle will begin in the south-western town of Dumfries during next spring's breeding season, when a special anti-gull 'task force' will seek to destroy nests and drive out the birds. http://www.planetark.org/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/49929/story.htm Please write to him at michael.russell.msp@scottish.parliament.uk asking him not to go ahead with this ludicrous plan!

Petition to UN FOOD VS FEED': In cooperation with MEP Jens Holm and the Swiss Union for Vegetarianism, EVANA has launched a petition to the UN: 'FOOD VS FEED': An appeal to the United Nations and its agencies to stop ignoring vegetarianism and instead study its multi-faceted benefits, with the aim of incorporating them into future strategies for a world without hunger.
